Can Music and Dance make my Child smarter?
I recently read an article about an enterprising young student who chose to tackle this question for his science fair project.
At the start of his project he ran 72 mice through a maze. He found that on average, they needed 10 minutes to find their way through the maze. Then he divided them into 3 groups, exposing one to heavy-metal bands music, the second to classical music by Mozart and a control group to no music. At the end of 4 weeks he timed the mice again as they maneuvered through the maze. The results are interesting. The control group averaged 5 minutes, the Mozart mice, just 1 ½ minutes and the heavy-metal mice stumbled through the maze in an average of 30 minutes. Most scientists agree there is something special about the structure of classical music that makes the brain respond positively. When you are choosing dance classes you may want to ad a ballet class to your child’s schedule. Something to think about.
